Radiohead recently launched this online music video tool. Jump into the "In Rainbows" concert from the Saitama Super Stadium leg of their 2008 Japanese tour, toggle between different camera feeds and play with the lighting show.

The video interface allows you to choose from 12 colour-coded cameras to record your own "rainbow" (the song 15 Step is the opening track from Radiohead's In Rainbows album). You can then play back your edit by clicking and dragging the playhead in the timeline, or view charts of the most popular shots (click on the two buttons on the right side, or see the screenshots below. There's some impressive juggling going on behind the scenes to keep the video playing as you hop from camera to camera.

Are you bored with automotive microsites? This one tries to go outside the envelope.

The idea is simple: Just show the consumer what he will get from GM certified used vehicles, but wouldn't ever get from a private seller.

The web site site displays surveillance style footage of the ambushes as they happen. Actual used vehicle sellers are intercepted by an MTV-Punk'd-styled actor who asks the questions that private party used-vehicle sellers often don't want to hear and interjects humor with off-the-wall requests. During one "Ambush," the actor brings out a big red house phone and asks if he can install it in the seller's home to call for roadside assistance any time, day or night. [source: GM press release]

Well executed. But does it really boost sales? How relevant is it? Why were private sellers targeted and not those shabby car dealers who stretch my nerves with dubiously financing offerings and warranties?

Volkswagen UK recently launched their new website.

They follow a very simple approach: sell cars. The whole redesign did a great job at accomplishing that task. Beside that "little" loading issues it's a strong move to go for such a clear tasks focus on the homepage.

There are many innovative user enganging features like the consitent visual look & feel, the 3d car configurator and of course the deep linking, allowing people to link directly to certain aspects of the site. The whole site was built with Adobe Flex. Yeah!

Presidential Watch 2008 has launched a set of tools which analyzes the important trends of the campaigns, the opinions of citizens and the continuously evolving standings of the candidates taking part in the race. One of its tools features a Map of the Political Blogosphere, highlighting the 292 influential sites and opinion hubs making the online debate on the presidential race. The map shows the different political communities represented by: Progressive, Independent, Conservative and Mass Media.

With less than a year to go before election day, the battlefield is already crowded with troops. The Republican and Democrat primaries have brought all supporters and cybersupporters in the debate. After some drouthy days of this wonderful new year I'd like to recommend this amazing banner ad for Adobe Acrobat 3D to you.

The ad uses heavy animations to present the various possibilities of the product. Additionally it is fully stuffed with information. I was wondering about the richness of it. Don’t know if this works but it gained my attention. Excellent execution!

Glue London is raising some money for charity at Let's go to Lapland. Their employees have to cycle the distance from London to Lapland (I feel sympathy with them). Just watch them in realtime and spend some money.

All the money will be spent to the Salvation Army.

How to hunt a whale?

The Whale Hunt is the latest project by Jonathan Harris.

He tells the story of a traditional whale hunt by a family of Inupiat Eskimos in Barrow, Alaska in new ways. He documented the entire experience with a very slow stop-motion-film: a linear sequence of 3,214 images, taken at 5-minute intervals, even while sleeping (using a chronometer), establishing a constant “photographic heartbeat”. But in moments of high adrenaline, this framerate/heartbeat would quicken (to a maximum rate of 8 frames per minutes while the first whale was being cut up), mimicking the changing pace of his own heartbeat.

All imagery is presented in a very rich visual interface: Each photo comes with various meta-data like date, time, cadence (level of excitement), context (where it was taken), concepts (which ideas are represented) & cast (who is pictured). All the pictures can be displayed as a mosaic (all photos simultaneously), a timeline (a medical heartbeat graph whose magnitude at each point corresponds to the photographic frequency) or as a pinwheel (circular timeline).

This is definitively one of the best campaigns I have seen for a while. It's part of the "Good thing should never end" campaign by Orange UK.

The mechanic is to bridge the TV campaign with promotional online content by using interactive TV. Yeah!

And what is the idea? The concept is "to drive a deeper engagement and expanded knowledge of Orange's 'unlimited' proposition by provoking a discourse online, so that people can collectively find and highlight where Orange have hidden a number of 'good things' and then go back to the TV and find them.

In other words: Try to find all of the hidden benefits of being an Orange customer. Some of them you'll find via interactive TV whilst others can only be worked out by finding the answers seeded online. (via Weapon 7)

And throughout your search you'll fall in love like never before with this fuzzy wuzzy stop-animated monsters and funny mad creatures ...

Dutch based interactive agency Black Magic Marker launched this microsite for TomTom one of the world's largest navigation solution provider. Unfortunately the website doesn't work for me. Why did they choose "Enjoy the silence" (Depeche Mode) as background music? The idea is to surprise the user with undiscovered features. The microsite as a secret manual looking like an operating instructions book. Unfortunately there is less interactivity and even less entertaining content.

I don't know whether they are belonging together or not, but 3 months ago I found this TomTom viral at YouTube. There's a world of difference between the microsite and this viral.

It lets the user play with a music box. You have to move your mouse clockwise at the right speed. The longer you spin it the bigger the prizes you win.

I like it becuase it isn't just nice. There is a smart idea behind it. It's not just "hi, we are band blablabla. check out our new album called blaaaa. listen to this exclusively blablabla ..." No, this is really interactive, authentic, entertaining and it is creating buzz online.

Spreading road joy is easy with this fresh microsite from VW Canada. Volkswagen's new initiative, Road Joy, invites Canadians to be "agents of change on the road by driving friendly", promoting a positive spin on the road rage trend.

The first step in the program is to purchase one of VW's recently updated Canadian-exclusive entry-level models, the 2008 City Golf or City Jetta.

But before a new customer is even allowed to buy the car they must agree to "stem the tide of road rage" by visiting www.vw.ca after taking the new car home, and then logging onto its Road Joy registry, where they'll be able to choose a mission of kindness to be carried out with the new car. A, B or C? - the great car cover up

The Great Car Cover Up is a stunning viral microsite from one of my alltime digital favorite's Glue London. Unfortunately I missed the live time of it. But the idea is still cool.

To raise awareness of the RAC's Car Data Check product they raffled three mystery cars for the price of a £1 text message. A convertible worth tens of thousands of pounds, a guaranteed head turner and a complete dud. But which is which? The microsite provides footage of the three cars that have their identities concealed. They have been filmed in a secret London location, and users were asked to text their choice of car A, B or C for just £1. The cars were protected by Mike, a funny security guard. The winners of each car were randomly chosen and asked to pick up their car at the Grand Reveal which is shown on the website.

There are also free bonus entry into the prize draw if you send on the competition details to your friends, as well as a car popularity graph so that you can see which car is receiving the most votes.

The competition run five weeks and raised £10.000 which they have spend to Brake, a road safety charity.

When was the last time you saw a really mindblowing commercial at the cinema? I can't remember. OK, i can only speak for Germany were cinema advertising is used to be really boring.

Let's take a look at the UK, where Volvo recently launched a cutting-edge in-cinema campaign for their all-wheel-drive estate car XC 70. The idea is to involve the cinema audience in an unique interactive gaming experience on the big screen.

Yeah, humans become joysticks, waving their arms in the air to control the car in the game on the big screen. The aim of the game is to collect as many various items as they can in the time allowed.

Anita Fox, Head of Marketing Communications, Volvo Car UK comments: “I’m delighted that Volvo is able to bring this exciting new experience to UK cinemagoers. The concept was developed in order to engage a group of people and take video gaming, traditionally an individual pastime, to a truly sociable environment. By working together as a team, having fun and sharing the experience, it’s the perfect way to communicate Volvo's ‘Life Is Better Lived Together’ brand message.”

Microsite for the Audi metroproject quattro commissioned by NEUE DIGITALE.

This was one of those veeery short term projects. Just one week for all from briefing to production.

The Audi metroproject quattro is a concept car which will be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show. Audi did not publish any details on the new concept. Due to a lack Audi released the images of this concept car one week earlier than it was initially planned. click here for more pictures

Microsite for the Audi A4 commissioned by NEUE DIGITALE.

I created the idea and developed the concept. Unfortunately you'll see only a fraction of it (10%?) online. Additionally I did the whole copywriting (German language).

Check out the Bang & Olufsen Sound System where you can adjust audio signals and also will get realtime sound visualization.

There's life in the old dog yet. Yeeeha. Check out this fresh new microsite for the Sony Walkman. It's fully stuffed with awesome classical sounds, Papervision 3D and in its heart, user generated content. Upload a picture and become part of a strange computer animated choir. Each animation is created of just one photo. Unbelieveable. Like no other.

The site was created by Tokio based interactive agencies IMG SRC which currently won gold at the Canneslions festival for their Big Shadows XBOX promotion and NON GRID. Sayonara.

Playgrounds is a Papervision 3D based microsite for the new Canon EOS 400D. I like the fresh look and the unique use of photos. Media Catalyst, Amsterdam created the website.

Nissan Rogue - Maze Master

For those who didn't love playing Labyrinth in their childhood, please don't continue. For all the others please enjoy the new campaign for the new Nissan Rogue. A crossover for people who really enjoy driving. In the TV commercial a big city is the maze and the Rogue is the steel ball. Nissan spread additional viral movies in the teaser phase of the campaign. Game on.

Unfortunately we don't have many of this campaigns in Germany. With some expectations (VW, MINI, SMART, Opel?) German car manufacturers don't like viral movies that much and they don't like integrated campaigns as well. The question is why? Wouldn't it be a positive surprise if our traditional premium brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz or even Porsche became more humorous, lively, spontaneous, fleet-footed and integrated?

Viral movies, for example: I mean, look at Renault and their very successful campaigns. OK, Renaut is neither German nor premium. But they are entertaining in their very special way. They are unique. They are french. They speak with one voice through all channels. People remember their brand and products because they have a good time consuming Renault's creative output (Thank you Nordpol!). People like to consume advertising which comes not as advertising but just as added value to their leisure time.

On the other hand there are so many issues with integrated campaigns. Unfortunately it's 3 a.m. ... I'll send a follow up on this. Last but not least, TBWA/Chiat/Day created the ads.
